The Barn - Available now!

The barn includes 2,000 square feet of space upstairs and the equivalent downstairs. The upstairs features reclaimed flooring, a 6-foot wide staircase with a new railing and a second staircase out the back and swags of bistro lights. The barn features rough sawn lumber from the 1940s, dairy stanchions (where cows were milked), and a working manure track and bucket, sparkling clean of course! The show stoppers are the 100-year-old arched windows that allow evening sun to provide a nice glow of natural light. The barn will be equipped with lighting in late fall / early winter 2023. For more about the history of the barn, visit “The Property.”

The barn will be available for rental May - October. While it is not a climate controlled space, we will provide fans and rental includes use of the lawn if you wish to put up a tent. This is the perfect space for corporate gatherings, reunions, class parties, birthday parties and smaller weddings.

Tailwind Cottage - Now Available!

We have traveled extensively, including Africa and Asia and to nearly all 50 states. We’ve stayed in Airbnbs in bustling cities enjoying exotic curries, music, and wearing out our soles from walking. We’ve also experienced some quieter country escapes where we can connect with one another and nature. Along the way we have admired people (a few names that surface are Tom and June in Thailand, Mango Doug in Hawaii) who open their homes for guests to experience a taste of the local culture. We’ve noted the little things that make a place comfortable, beyond the obvious like fresh linens. We mean good coffee, a full spice rack and soft lighting.

Tailwind Cottage is our country tiny home awaiting for you to experience the sights, sounds and smells here on our farm. The local culture is a quiet country escape that will fill your cup. We are located in Northeast Iowa, 15 minutes from Cresco, 25 minutes to New Hampton, 30 minutes from Decorah and 60 minutes to Rochester, MN. We have plenty of recommendations of day trips and itineraries and you’ll find that there’s plenty to explore from our door step.

Our Cottage was originally our garage, which snuggly fit two cars. It now blends vintage finds with modern elements. The main space features a queen-sized bed and a loft space for additional sleeping. The Cottage can sleep 4, please note the loft requires climbing a ladder and has very low ceilings. We allow an additional tent or two onsite for bigger parties at an extra fee.

The space has a mini-split and ceiling fan for warm days and cozy radiant in-floor heat for chillier months. It includes a kitchenette with a full fridge, induction hot plate, microwave and all other kitchen essentials … depending on the season there will be something stocked from our garden, either farm fresh eggs or garden produce. It also includes early 1900 pocket doors leading into an attached bathroom with a modern tiled shower. Wake up to birds and flowers out your window and enjoy your cup of coffee in the grain bin, turned gazebo.
